Thai Flood Victims
Individuals named in the lawsuit including Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Justice Minister and head for the Flood Relief Operations Command (FROC) Pracha Promnok, Minister for Agriculture Theera Wongsamut, and Bangkok’s Governor and head of the capital’s flood relief effort Sukhumbhand Paribatra. Officials from another 11 agencies have also been named in the extensive lawsuit.
The flood victims have asked the Central Administrative Court to hold those named today’s submission to be held accountable for the damage as a result of mistakes, ignorance, failure and recklessness on the part of authorities concerned in the flood relief operations and to order them to pay full compensation for the actual damage.
A request has also been made to the court for fixed procedures to be put in place that would ensure that the government would be able to deal with the situation should it ever happen again in the future.
They would also like to see a fund set aside of at least 2 billion baht each year, increased with inflation, that would be used for welfare and rehabilitation of those affected by the floods, and have control over the management of the fund.
352 flood victims have submitted their petition to the Central Administrative Court to request the government to pay compensation for the actual damage incurred to their property during this year’s flood crisis.
